Andrea's story about Ryan reminded me of a conversation I had with Jercie a while back. We were sitting at the kitchen table eating lunch. "Mom, I'm NEVER going to have babies." To which I replied, "why's that?" Because I don't want to buy them presents, I don't want to buy them anything, I just want to have a nice relaxing time." I thought maybe that would be the end to that. I was wrong. A couple days ago she told me again that she isn't having any babies. I asked why. She said," Because I don't want to have my belly cut open." ( Side note for those that don't know, I had c-sections with my last 2 babies, she saw the scar from those.) I told her that not all babies are born that way. She then asked how else are they born. I decided to play it straight with her. Some may disagree but I told her the only other way babies are born. I thought she might freak, but she was okay with it. That was better than having her belly cut open I guess. She is still against the idea of babies. Funny kid. I think she is the first little girl I have ever known to not want a baby.
An Alexander update: He flatlined Satuday, but they were able to revive him. He has had quiet nights and days since then though, and quiet is what we want. They have him sedated and paralyzed so that he can keep all of the tubes in. They tried to decrease the paralytic, but when Marsha talked to him he got too excited so they had to up the dose. His kidneys aren't functioning the way they want them to. They had to drain fluid from his abdomen so his other organs can function properly. If they can get and keep him stable they will do the open heart surgery sometime next week. I know that all the prayers are helping so please remember Alexander.

What a funny little girl you have! I think you were right to play it straight. I am the same way with my kids. They will find out sooner or later. Might as well be us who tell them right!:) Alexander is still in our prayers.
ReplyDeleteHa, that's too funny. For a long time my kids thought all babies were born that way, well, Ryan still does, but Tyson knows what's up...Poor Colby and Marsha, they must be so scared. I'm keeping them in my thoughts...
ReplyDeleteStill praying for little Alexander! Poor little guy. I hope everything goes well for him. Do Colby and Marsha still have the other kids with them? I'm sure Colby and Marsha are really stressed/worried right now, what a hard thing to have to go through. I will continue to pray for them as well. Send them my love!
ReplyDeleteCute story about your daughter- wanting a relaxing time! She sounds cute. I too think you should be staight up with your kids. You don't have to tell them everything all at once. Just answer their immediate question- They usually are satisfied with that. Good luck!
Straight talk is the only way to go! We fasted for Natalie's Cassidy and Alexander on sunday! We'll continue our prayers. Keep us posted!

ReplyDelete(Sorry I deleted my previous one- I messed it all up!)
ReplyDeleteSo I went to the PICU tonight to visit my niece and I saw your nephew's name on the big board they have in there showing who was in there. (Although, I was a little surprised that he was in the PICU instead of the NICU. But then again, I guess another one of my nieces was in there once when she was a newborn and waiting for Heart surgery, so I shouldn't have been too surprised.) I kind of wondered if I'd run into Colby or Marsha while I was in there, but never did- it's sadly filled with too many sick little ones! May they all become healthy soon and be able to return to their homes and families!
Tonia, where are you? How is Alexander?
