Snowdaggets

So I totally stole that word from our friend Steve.

It was so warm for a couple days last week that I thought maybe spring was just around the corner. Boy was I wrong! It dumped a good 5 inches on us Friday night/Saturday morning.

The kids wanted to go play in it right after breakfast so I sent them out in their snow clothes.

I followed shortly after I got me and Kaia all dressed warm. It's kind of a pain getting myself and a 20 month old ready to play in the snow. Kaia loves to go outside though so I am happy to do it.

Kola is a big fan of playing in the snow too.

See the little balls of snow stuck to her legs? They are snowdaggets. She is actually standing in this pic it just looks like she is sitting. The kids kept calling her a muscle dog because she looked like she had huge muscles up her legs. The power was also out that morning so when we went back in the house I had to defrost the dog in the dark. If only our bathroom had some windows...

It's that time again

Remember how I said I was going to change my writing style? Yeah, well, I lied. Too much work and not enough time, so you are stuck with my signature randomness.

It was parent teacher conferences today. I always get a little nervous because I know how my kids act at home. I worry that they act that way at school too. Luckily it is unnecessary.

I will start with the boy. Mike took him to his conference this morning. When he got home he said, "I think Blaze's scores are higher than Jercie's were." So I dropped the dishes and ran over to take a look. He only missed 5 of 23 qualifiers for Kindergarten. That means he's ready to go to the big school. I still can't believe it. The only things he is having a little trouble with are naming capital letters, printing his name (he can do 3 of the 5 letters), copying a plus, square and triangle, (he's really close with those though), and reciting the alphabet (he forgets the L and gets the M and N mixed up).  Mrs. Batty also said all the kids love him. When they line up and choose who goes next Blaze is always one of the first ones to get picked. I'm so proud of him, can you tell?

Now on to Jercie. I took her to her conference this afternoon. I told her if we got a good report we would go get ice cream just me and her. They take a test called the NWEA twice a year. Once in the fall and again in the winter. It covers math and reading. In math Jercie is in the 80-100% in problem solving, computation, measurement and geometry, satistics and probability and algebra. She is in the 61-80% for number sense. All of which are well above average. For reading she is in the 80-100% for phonological awareness, phonics, concepts of print, vocab and word structure, comprehension and writing. Mrs. Penney said she is one of the top readers in her class. I am also very proud of her. Needless to say we went and got some ice cream.

Kaia doesn't have a teacher to do parent teacher conferences with, but I will go ahead and say she is just as smart as her big brother and sister. She is talking in complete sentences now. Well, sometimes. She got mad at me yesterday for calling her baby girl. She corrected me and said, "I a big kid!" Seriously? When did that happen? I don't remember giving her permission to grow up! She loves playing in the bathroom and snooping in my bedroom. She eats "canny" like no other child I've ever known. She likes cookies, and suckers too. The first thing she asks for in the morning is cookies and then milk. Luckily she thinks crackers are cookies.

It's hard work raising geniuses but somebody has to do it!

Copy Cat

So I have been thinking about doing a craft blog for a few weeks now. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I still don't think I have enough craft stuff to put on it, but I did it anyway. I know I'm a copy cat. Angela has a really cute one. And Leslie just got her awesome blog all set up last night, and that's what pushed me over the edge. I wanted to be like the cool kids. If you want to check it out click here.

I don't have a button yet, because I'm a little special and can't quite figure it out. I will eventually though. I still have a lot of work to do on it, but it's coming together quite nicely.

The Entertainer Returns

On Tuesday Kaia started getting a cough. She hasn't been sleeping well and this morning was coughing so hard she puked on the kitchen floor. So I decided to make an appointment with the doctor. He was full this morning but they said to come on in and they would squeeze her in when they could. When we got there he didn't have any patients so we got to go right back. As soon as he walked in the door Blaze said, "This is Kaia." And pointed to Kaia. The doctor was like "you're not Kaia? I didn't think you looked like a Kaia." Now you have to keep in mind that our doctor is kind of serious. I don't think I had ever heard him laugh until I started taking Blaze there, and I've been going to him since I was little. So then while I'm trying to tell the doctor what's going on with Kaia, Blaze is telling him all kinds of stories. Like, "My dad has the new Transformers movie and it's AWESOME!!" And asking all kinds of questions like, "What's this bed for?" The doctor kept laughing and humoring Blaze. When it was time to leave Blaze was still jabbering away and making the doc laugh so much that he forgot to give me the chart and Kaia's prescription. Luckily I remembered before I got to the front desk. As for Kaia she has a cold/flu that's been going around causing pneumonia and junk so he gave her an antibiotic. Hopefully she will get better and maybe be able to get some sleep!

I am also going to test out a new writing style. When I was younger, I wouldn't tell you about my day, I would tell you a story. Somewhere along the way I forgot how to do that, so I'm going to give it try here. I'm thinking the best way to get it back is to practice, right? Instead of just randomly writing what's been going on I'm going to try to put it into story form. Like I said, I kind of forgot how to do that so it might be longer in between posts and they may not be very good for awhile. Wish me luck!

Valentine Countdown

I found this cute idea here. I had a cute clear candy box from Christmas that has 15 spots for candy and just mod podged some cute paper onto it.  I copied Stephanie's activities and mod podged them and matching paper to decorative stones. It's pretty cute if I do say so myself :)
