On Tuesday Jercie came home from school. Usually she is very excited to tell me all about her day and show me what's in her back pack. When I asked her how it was she said fine and went to put her back pack away. I asked her to bring me her back pack and she took off running crying and telling me she didn't want me to see it. So I of course chased her, made her cry even harder and finally wrestled the back pack out of her hands. There wasn't anything in it. She had a little High School Musical notebook that I bought her in there that she thought I was going to take away. I must be a pretty mean mom if she's worried about that. :) So anyway, she just wasn't herself so I finally asked what was going on. She said that Nick's older sister was being mean to her, and all the other kids laughed at her. I was livid! This girl is in 5th or 6th grade. What the hell is she doing picking on a first grader. She told me that this girl called her a jerk for no reason. I explained it all to Mike, if you know Mike at all you know that you don't mess with his kids. He doesn't care how old or young you are he will take you down. Luckily, I was able to talk him down. I told Jercie to ignore that girl and tell her to leave her alone. Mike told me that if she comes off the bus crying again I don't have a say in what he does.
Yesterday, Jercie came home and the tears came pouring in. She said that the mean girl took a gum wrapper from her and tore it up. I know that sounds silly, and it is, but to a 6 year old it's horrifying. So Mike went up to the girl's house and spoke with the dad and the little girl. I told him to be nice. I had a feeling we weren't getting the whole story. Of course I was right. Mike came home and asked Jercie to tell the whole story.
Apparently, on Tuesday Nick brought a lizard to school. He let Jercie play with it. The bell rang and Jercie couldn't get it back to him before she had to get to class. She put it in her back pack and told the teacher about it. The teacher told her to go outside and let it go. I guess this ticked off Nick so he went and told his big sister who in turn was being mean to Jercie, never called her a jerk.
I asked Jercie if she thought she might owe this girl and apology and she said yes. I asked if she knew why. She said because she didn't tell me and Mike the whole story and lied to us about the girl calling her a jerk. So Mike took her back up to apologize. The other girl apologized too. I was very proud of Jercie for being so willing to say she was sorry and knowing what she did wrong. I must be doing something right. :)
Now just so you all know, this girl comes from a family of bullies. She and her brothers have all been in trouble for it. She is not innocent in all this, but Jercie wasn't either. Jercie will be riding the other bus that comes to Joseph from now on. I have to drive her to and from the bus stop now, but her happiness is well worth the price I have to pay. Being a parent is a lot harder than my parents made it look.

Marvelous Misadventures.
I'm going to turn the events of yesterday into a children's story one day. I think it is pretty entertaining...now. It wasn't so much fun in the moment.
Yesterday I took Kaia to the doctor for her 12 month well check. I know, we are a little behind. I had it scheduled in June, but Mike was a little paranoid about the Swine Flu, so we canceled and yesterday was the first available they had. So anyway, the hub on my truck has to be replaced and the new one won't be here until Monday. I was going to take Mike's car, but my mom was nervous about that so she insisted I take her's. I loaded Blaze and Kaia's carseats, put the DVD players in and off we went. Kaia watched Horton Hears a Who and laughed and pointed and yelled at the Wickersham Brothers and Horton. Blaze was watching Ghost Rider. About three miles into the canyon I realized I didn't give Blaze his dramamine. He gets really car sick in the canyon. I asked him how he was doing and he said not good. I asked if he needed to puke and he didn't. I told him if he needed to he had to let me know so I could pull over. I didn't have anything handy for him to ralph in at the moment. He made it to just outside of Beaver. We got pulled over in time and I found a cup in the trunk just in case. We stopped in Beaver and got him some dramamine. He only puked one other time after that and then fell asleep. He slept until we got to St. George. He opened his eyes and said, " I feel SO MUCH better!" I then asked if he felt like eating something. He just wanted Ketchup and French Fries. So that's what he got. We went to Old Navy and Target to do a little school shopping for him and he was so good. He didn't complain once and I didn't have to get after him for being naughty. It was so nice. Kaia was good too of course. I did have to tell her several times to sit down in the cart.
Then it was time for our Dr. appointment. Blaze was exceptionally good there too. He played with the toys and Kaia. He is such a good big brother. He makes me proud. Kaia is now 19 lbs and some change. She is 29 inched tall. She's pretty small for her age but the doc isn't too worried. I asked her about walking she said it's normal for them not to walk until they are 17 months. After that they start to worry. She did a couple tests anyway, because she has taken steps, but won't walk. She said her hips are a little too flexible for her age. They aren't usually that flexible at this point and that is probably why she won't walk. She said she would be fine and walking in the next month or two. If not we would just take her back in and they would figure out what's going on. She talks alot! Even if we don't know what she's saying, she does. She does say, mama, dada, Blazie, Kola, dog, WHAT?, and that. There are probably more, but I can't think of any. So we have a very healthy happy little girl.
We had a very nice quiet ride home with no car sickness to plague us.
ETA: So you may be thinking "How is that going to be a children's story?" Me too. But some day I might be able to swing it. :)

Locks of Love
Mike's dad recently had surgery to remove a portion of his kidney because there was a cancerous mass on it. They feel confident that they got all the cancer and he should be good to go. Because of this recent happening Mike made a trip to St. George today to visit Gary. He stopped on his way to the hospital and donated all of his hair to Locks of Love. He donated a total of 13 inches!!

Things that make me smile :)
I've been kind of in a funk today. I don't like it much so I'm going to do a post on the things that make me happy...
I'll start with the obvious...

And the not so obvious...

And how can this not make you smile :)...

Ward Camp Out and a Little Silliness
So the Joseph Ward had their annual camp out this weekend. We just went up for last night because Mike had to work. We made tin foil dinners and cooked them up there. The ward provided dessert. They made empanadas, so good. They put blueberry and lemon filling in a tortilla and deep fried it, rolled it in cinnamon and sugar and topped it with ice cream. Can you say heaven? I'm not really sure what happened after that as we had to leave. The kids stayed up to camp with some friends. Hopefully they were well behaved and didn't have any drama. Blaze wanted to wear his pajamas to sleep, but we didn't have any for him, he was pretty upset about it. I'm pretty sure he got over it though. Here are some pictures that I got while we were up there. And some other random silliness that occures daily at our house :)

Blaze and Brayden were playing with Walkie Talkies. Too funny!

Jercie being silly with headbands. She was in the bathroom for like 10 minutes. Apparently beauty of this caliber takes time :)

There is a season.
And it's the season for goodbyes at our house. We will be saying goodbye to summer here in a couple weeks. I will be saying goodbye to my Kindergartener and hello to my First Grader. I will also say goodbye to my little boy, and hello to my big preschooler.
Kaia will be saying goodbye as well. To this...

and this...

Bye the time school starts Kaia will no longer have a bottle. I know she doesn't need one, and I've been trying for a month to get rid of it. Any progress I make with it, Mike undoes though. He loves to give her a bottle, and like me, he's not quite ready for our baby to grow up. It has to happen eventually and I'm just not willing to have a 2 year old with a bottle. So goodbye bottles we will all miss you :)
Mike told me that I can only do one of them at a time. Since she uses the binky to go to sleep, I figured I would give her one more month with that. So by the end of September the binkies will be gone. She is down to one, as I refuse to buy new ones. Hopefully this sucker makes it that long.
The dog got a hold of it and chewed it up. I cannot for the life of me find any of her other 5 binkies. They are lost. At least until we get past the hard part of taking them away, then we will find all of the lost binkies. Wish us luck. We may need it in the weeks to come :)
