Kaia Hanlee Jorgensen

I can't believe it has already been a year! Seriously! Well since I never really told her story here I will do so now. Again, I want to warn you that there will be some stuff you don't want to hear, but this is more for me and Kaia anyway. :)

When Blaze was born we said we were done having babies. We didn't do any permanent birth control though. When he was about a year old, I had this overwhelming feeling that I had a little girl waiting for me. I know how crazy that sounds, Mike told me daily. Mike wasn't ready to have another baby. He didn't think we should. After what happened with Blaze I really couldn't blame him. He was worried I wouldn't survive another pregnancy. To be honest, I didn't know if I would either, but the feeling that there was another baby wouldn't go away. I could FEEL her presence, I know I just keep getting crazier right? Anyway, after about a year of talking and begging I finally convinced Mike that we should try for one more baby. He made me promise that if we had a boy we could name him Krush. I agreed, because I knew we would have a girl.
We tried for about 3 months. I had my period for November, but I just didn't feel right. I was peeing all the time and like I said, just felt off. I took a pregnancy test on November 15th and it came back positive within seconds. I couldn't wait to tell Mike. I went in and woke him up and let him know the happy news. He just kind of grunted and went back to sleep. I went to work, and pretty soon Mike calls. He said, "Tonia I had a dream that you told me you were pregnant." I was like "It wasn't a dream babe." And that's how Mike found out I was pregnant.
The day after I found out, I started bleeding. I called my doctor in St. George and they told me I was probably miscarrying and I should come in next week for an ultrasound to see if I would need a D&C. I went for the ultrasound and there was a yolk sac. Not a clear sign that there's a baby, but it meant that I hadn't miscarried yet. I was then put on moderate bed rest which meant cutting back on my hours at work during the busiest time of year! I went back for another ultrasound the next month and we had a heartbeat!!
I bled off and on the entire pregnancy. I had what they called a "friable cervix". It basically means my cervix was really sensitive and would bleed if I moved wrong, lifted heavy items, bent over, you get the picture.
I was scheduled for a c-section on July 11, 2008. I chose that date because Kaia was going to be the 7th grandbaby on Mike's side and the 11th on my side. I didn't quite make it to that date...
About a week before Kaia was born we took a little vacation to Mesquite. My doctor okayed it because I was closer to the hospital there than I was at home. I was hugely pregnant, waddling around the casino. It was probably a pretty funny sight to see. While we were there I was waiting by a slot machine and some really old lady comes up to me and asks me when I'm due. I told her in about 3 1/2 weeks. She was like oh honey you're not going to make it that long, you're going to have that baby in the next couple days! I was like Oh crap that lady's close to death she probably knows what she's talking about!!! Then that night, I started having contractions every 15 minutes for like 3 hours. I just laid in bed hoping they would stop. I didn't want to ruin Mike's vacation by having the baby!! Luckily they stopped.
On the morning of June 26th I went about my business. I had a doctor appointment that afternoon and was going to have my mom watch the other kids, but Shantel's Grandma in law had passed and her funeral was that day so she had to watch Gracie. I told Mike that I had a feeling I was going to have the baby so I was taking all the hospital stuff with us. He looked at me like I was crazy, but let me do it. We loaded the kids, the car seat, and our hospital bags in the truck and away we went. I drove because Mike had just gotten off graveyard and needed to rest. I had contractions all the way down to St. George. They weren't too bad. Obviously, we made it down there in one piece right? I stopped to get the kids a snack and something for me to eat. I was chowin' down on some trail mix and decided that I probably shouldn't eat anymore just in case I do have the baby.
So we get to the doctor's office and Mike decided to stay in the car with the kids while I go get checked out. They hooked me up to the non stress test thing. The doctor came in and asked if I wanted her to check to see if I was dialated at all. I told her she better because I had been having contractions and started bleeding again that morning. So she checked and I was at a 2.5. She left me on the monitors for a little while longer and then came back to tell me that she wanted me to be monitored at the hospital to see if I was progressing.
I went through the secret entrance to the hospital and called Mike to let him know what was going on. I also called my mom to come and get the kids because I might be having the baby tonight. I was having contractions about every 3 minutes by this time and was dilated to a 3. Mike wasn't very happy when they told us I was having my c-section at 8:00. My mom got there to pick up the kids at about 7:50. I asked her to run to Target and get me a boppy pillow.
I was taken to the OR shortly after that. I was so nervous. Mike wasn't allowed to come in with me while they did my spinal. The anesthiologist was so nice and my nurse was the sweetest! They talked to me the whole time. They complimented me and made me feel skinny even though I was the size of a whale. He had to try several times to get the spinal in, but he finally got it. He was very sweet and apologized several times. Soon Mike was led into the OR and his anger had faded. He took pictures of me while they prepped my belly and made the staff laugh.
Then Dr. Winward made the cut. There was of course the tugging and pulling. Mike continued to make the doctors and nurses laugh. And me too. I'm sure it wasn't easy to pull a baby out of a laughing belly, but somehow they did it.
At 8:20 pm on June 26th Kaia Hanlee Jorgensen was brought into this world. She weighed 6 lbs and 1 oz and was 18 inched long. Mike went over and took pictures and followed her to the nursery. From that moment he was wrapped around her little finger. The anesthesiologist sat by my head and talked to me while the doctors sewed me up.
I was taken to recovery and Kaia went to the nursery. At about 10:00 I was taken up to my room. My mom was there with my kids and they all got to meet the baby. Blaze wasn't really sure what to think. I was pretty out of it and I think that made him a little nervous. They were only there for a couple minutes and then headed home.
Kaia is one of the funniest babies I have ever met! She is ridiculously serious, but has the cutest sense of humor. She doesn't laugh often, but that makes it more precious. She loves her daddy! If daddy isn't around though, she won't leave my side. I am so glad that God has blessed me with this sweet baby girl! I couldn't have asked for more!
Happy Birthday Sweetpea! We love you!!!!

Party...

Although Kaia's birthday isn't until the 26th we celebrated yesterday, because Mike has to work. We just had a small family BBQ. We made beer can chicken, pasta salad, fresh green salad, and my sister brought her yummy potato salad. After we had dinner we had cake, and Kaia opened her presents. She wasn't really to big on getting dirty in the cake despite my best attempts at helping her. I got covered pretty good in frosting though. It was fun, though I was sad that none of Mike's family was able to make it. Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure...

Donuts, Crashes and Helmet Hair

The kids have been riding their 4-wheelers the last couple days. Blaze has gotten a lot better than he was last year and crazier too. He has started to spin donuts and play chicken with Jercie, although it's debatable whether she's a willing participant. He wrecked a couple times and both times, when asked if he was okay he simply replied, "THAT WAS AWESOME!!" He's such a boy. Here are some pictures and videos of them riding. Enjoy...

This is Blaze spinning donuts (in case you were wondering)

If you look closely you can see Blaze standing up.

After riding they both have a mild case of helmet hair. :)

Meet Chili

This is Chili The Chinchilla. He joined our family this afternoon. We were going to get Jercie and Blaze each a guinea pig, but the pet store didn't have any. I talked everybody into the chinchilla. I hope he ends up being a good pet, otherwise I am in big trouble!!!

I'm starting to worry about myself...

I am beginning to wonder where all this craftiness is coming from.
I started getting sick of losing binkies everytime I turned around, so I got a binky clip from walmart it wasn't cute at all. As you can see from this picture...

I used it as rarely as I could, until Andrea pointed me to a site that had the cutest binky chains. I thought, " I could totally make those." So I gave it a shot and this is how they turned out. I think I did a pretty good job.

Then today the kids decided they were bored with playing outside. (Direct quote from Jercie by the way). I had bought these little puppet kits from Walmart yesterday for like $3. I gave them each a package and off they went making puppets. They did good. I had to help Blaze for most of it, while Jercie did her's all by herself. Check them out!

And a picture of Kaia for good measure :)

I think I left something behind

Our weekend in Alamo went a little like this...

Blaze got bit by a dog the first night we were there.

We had popcicles.

And liked them alot.

5 kids actually sitting quietly!!

We played Guitar Hero! Papa Gary is a Rock Star!

Kaia played. She loved this little car.

And played some more.

She loved on Baby Kaden

Blaze was goofy.

Mike sanded and primed Susan.

The kids played a lot outside.

More playing.

Kaia slept a lot too.

And hung out with Papa Gary and drank lots of Pepsi.

All in all it was a good trip and wonderful to see everybody. Jercie decided to stay at Grandma Annette and Papa Gary's house for a few more days. I am going to pick her up in St. George on Friday.
